IMD in Valencia

The IMD provides the opportunity for museum professionals to meet the public and alert them as to the challenges that museums face. Indeed, following the definition of museums provided by ICOM, a museum is a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for the purposes of education, study and enjoyment. International Museum Day therefore serves as a platform to raise public awareness on the role museums play in the development of society today, on an international level.

International Day of Families

"You have the right to live with your parent(s), unless it is bad for you. You have the right to live with a family that cares for you." - Article #9 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), in Child-Friendly language

“The family, as the fundamental group of society and the natural environment for the growth and well-being of all its members and particularly children, should be afforded the necessary protection and assistance so that it can fully assume its responsibilities within the community.” - UNCRC

2016 Theme: Families, healthy lives and sustainable future

The International Day of Families is observed on the 15th of May every year. The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993 and reflects the importance the international community attaches to families.

The International Day provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families.

The International Day of Families has inspired a series of awareness-raising events, including national family days. In many countries, that day provides an opportunity to highlight different areas of interest and importance to families. Activities include workshops and conferences, radio and television programmes, newspaper articles and cultural programmes highlighting relevant themes.

Islands of Personality & Feelings

"The point is, the Islands of Personality are what makes Riley, Riley."
—Joy, opening narration

Friendship Island

Friendship Island represented Riley's sense of friendship, especially with her best Minnesota friend Meg, at least in its original form. It featured merry-go-rounds, happy faces and an arch with stars and a heart.

Friendship Island was lost one day after its core memory, when Riley (under Anger's control) got angry at Meg for getting a new best friend. It was restored and expanded by the time Riley turned 12. A "friendly argument" section was opened.

Hockey Island

Hockey Island represents Riley's love of hockey. Its features include giant representations of hockey material like sticks, skates and a helmet, along with a golden trophy.

Riley lost this island after failing to play properly on the first tryouts at San Francisco, much to her anger. Hockey Island was eventually restored by a happy and angry memory.

Honesty Island

Honesty Island represents Riley's sense of integrity. Its design includes a greek temple and a justice court hammer.

It was rapidly destroyed two days after its core memory was lost, when Riley stole her mother's credit card. As the others, it was eventually restored.

Family Island

Family Island is by far the largest and strongest of the islands. It is dominated by a monumental statue of Riley surrounded by her parents, and includes family-related details like the family car, a swing or a genealogical tree. It notably incorporates a trampoline, which is used by Joy to finally get back to Headquarters at the end of the film. Family Island was the last island to stand following the loss of its core memory. Its resilience was such that, unlike the other islands, it didn't go down all at once but piece by piece, as Riley was running away.

Family Island was also the first Island to be restored, now even larger than before as it incorporated elements from the landscape of San Francisco, such as the Golden Gate Bridge. It becomes Riley's central island, and is now powered by a both joyful and sad memory.

Goofball Island

Goofball Island is Joy's favorite island, featuring many colourful wheels and a big sculpture of a goofy face. It represented Riley's childhood goofiness and was the biggest island after Family.

Goofball Island was the first Island to be destroyed, which happened when Riley's father tried to make her smile by acting goofy. By the time Riley turned 12, Goofball had been restored, though in a slightly smaller form.

Why Pixar's Inside Out is the best children's film ever made

Until Riley was uprooted, Joy had always been the star of the show; the predominant emotion in her head. But faced with such a momentous change, Sadness takes centre stage. As Joy desperately battles to make everything right in Riley’s head, she begins to learn that it just isn’t possible. She needs to let Sadness take over.

And so it is that the most unlikely of emotions saves the day, and makes everything better. The lesson we have learnt by the end is a powerful one that is is all-too unusual in the upbeat world of movies for kids: it’s ok to be sad. Crucial, even.

Happy - feeling, showing, or causing pleasure or satisfaction

Sad - unhappy or sorry

Ungry - having a strong feeling against someone who has behaved badly, making you want to shout at them or hurt them

Scared - frightened or worried

Silly - showing little thought or judgment

Excited - feeling very happy and enthusiastic

Surprised - feeling or showing surprise because something has happened that you did not expect

Shy - nervous and uncomfortable with other people

Embarrassed - feeling ashamed or shy

Happy Earth Day 2016

22nd April 2016 will be the 45th anniversary of earth day. you can say 45th anniversary of International Mother Earth Day

We should care our planet because there is no planet Z for us.

Earth Were In It Together

  • The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970.

  • On Earth Day 2009, Disney released a documentary film called Earth that followed the migration paths of four animal families.

  • On the very first Earth Day, 20 million people gathered in the streets of America to protest the industrial revolution. An environmental movement was born as a result.

  • Every year on April 22, men, women, and children collect garbage, plant trees, clean up coral reefs, show movies, sign petitions, and plan for a better future for our planet.

The Earth gives us everything, we'll ever need
If we take care of it, we will succeed.

The air we breathe, the ocean blue
We keep them clean for me and you.

The food that grows on farms and trees
    Like scarecrows, we protect these.
    'Cause...

The Earth gives us everything, we'll ever need
If we take care of it, we will succeed.

The sheep that form our wooly clothes
They keep us warm in winter snows.

On summer days, the trees give shade
From these, they say, our homes are made.

The things we use with care and ease,
Well it's no news, recycle please.
    'Cause...

The Earth gives us everything, we'll ever need
If we take care of it, we will succeed.

The Earth is a friend, on whom we depend
The Earth is a friend, that we can defend

The Earth is a friend, on whom we depend
The Earth is a friend, that we can defend

World Health Day - Keep Your Dreams Alive

This April 7th marks World Health Day (WHD).
For the first time ever, WHO has chosen diabetes as its theme for WHD in 2016.

The number of people living with diabetes has almost quadrupled since 1980 to 422 million adults, with most living in developing countries. Factors driving this dramatic rise include overweight and obesity, WHO announced ahead of World Health Day.

    Halt the rise

More and more people are getting diabetes around the world. The increase is in great part driven by rising levels of overweight and obesity and physical inactivity, including among children.

    Eat healthy

A healthy diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in sugar and saturated fats can help prevent Type 2 diabetes, and also help people to manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes if they have it.

    Be active

Being physically active – through at least 30 minutes of regular, moderate-intensity activity on most days – can help prevent Type 2 diabetes and its complications, as well as help people to better manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes if they have it.

    If in doubt, check!

Symptoms for diabetes include thirst, hunger, weight loss, fatigue and blurred vision. However, many people who have diabetes do not have symptoms. If people think they might have the disease, consulting a health-care professional is recommended.

World Health Day 2016 poster: Follow medical advise

    Follow medical advise

A range of treatments exists to manage diabetes and control blood glucose, including through eating healthy, being active, taking prescribed medication, controlling blood pressure, and avoiding tobacco use. People with diabetes can live well if they follow a treatment plan developed together with their health-care provider.

Mindfulness - Welcome to the 3rd Term :-)

Just Breathe by Julie Bayer Salzman & Josh Salzman

We made “Just Breathe” with our son, his classmates and their family members one Saturday afternoon. The film is entirely unscripted – what the kids say is based purely on their own neuro-scientific understanding of difficult emotions, and how they cope through breathing and meditation. They, in turn, are teaching us all ...

    The Butterfly Meditation

"Make your body comfortable, and when you’re ready, close your eyes

Let’s start by taking a few deep breaths.

Feel the air filling your tummy as you take a deep breath in through your nose,

And make a big “aaaah” sound as you let the air out your mouth,

And each time you breathe out, feel your whole body becoming loose and floppy....

Take a few more big breaths like this

Now, you can start breathing normally again,

In and out through your nose

When you breathe in, think about the word “In”,

And when you breathe out, think about the word “Out”,

Can you hear these words inside your head just by thinking about them,

without making any sound with your mouth,

not even moving your tongue or your lips,

Let’s do this a bit longer,

Thinking about the word “In” when you breathe in,

And thinking about the word “Out” when you breathe out,

Feel how your stomach gets full like a balloon when you breathe in,

And gets smaller again when you let the air out

Now imagine that you are lying out on the grass in a beautiful park

The sun is shining and your eyes are closed

    Just relaxing in the sunshine

As you lie there, a very friendly butterfly comes to say hello to you

Can you imagine this butterfly? It can be any colour you choose

The butterfly is fluttering its wings just above your toes....

If you really pay attention, can you feel the soft breeze from the butterfly's wings on your toes?

Now the butterfly is floating along your legs to your knees....

Can you feel a little tingling feeling from its wings on your legs?

If you can’t feel anything, just imagine what it would feel like if you could,

Now the butterfly is fluttering its wings as it moves up to your belly button....

Can you feel it tickling your belly as it flies around?

Try to imagine what the butterfly’s wings look like?

Maybe you can see them, and feel them fluttering at the same time in your imagination?

Now the butterfly is floating up and down your arms,

From your shoulder to your hands and back

Feel it with your imagination as it flies up and down each arm,

And now, just before flying off, the butterfly is coming to wish you a beautiful day,

As it flutters its wings just above your forehead!

See it floating there in your mind,

Feel the fluttering of its wings

If you listen very closely, you might be able to hear them flutter,

    And now, off it flies..

Leaving you feeling very warm and cozy,

    Just lying in the sunshine...

Now, let’s just sit quietly and breathe for just a bit longer until you hear the bell."
