The Easter Bunny is coming! - Happy Easter :-)

How many eggs in the Easter basket?

Let's all look for Easter eggs

Easter is in spring time

The Easter bunny is a symbol of the Easter, and the messenger of gifts for children. It has its origins in Germany, where it is mentioned in books since the 17th century.

Symbol of fertility, it is associated with the goddess Easter, which was the god of April or of spring. The rabbit means fertility and new life.

It was first mentioned in Germany, from chocolate and sugar, and the tradition spread on the entire continent and then in the United States.

Easter
Easter is the time for holidays, festivals and a time for giving chocolate Easter eggs.

When is Easter?
Easter usually comes in the month of April. However, Easter can fall as early as March 22nd or as late as April 25th.

Where does the name 'Easter' come from?
Pagan traditions give us the English word "Easter" which comes from the word "Eostre". The Anglo-Saxon word for April was "Eostre-monath" (the month of openings)

Why does the date of Easter move?
Easter is called a moveable feast because the date of Easter changes every year. Easter Sunday can fall on any date from 22 March to 25 April.
The reason for this variation in the date of Easter is based on the lunar calendar (moon) rather than our more well-known solar one.
Easter always falls on the first Sunday following the full Moon (the Paschal Full Moon) after 21st March. If the Full Moon falls on a Sunday then Easter is the next Sunday.

Spring forward, fall back - DST

Daylight Saving Time (DST) is a way of making better use of the natural daylight by setting your clock forward one hour during the summer months, and back again in the fall.

DST starts in Europe Sunday, March 29, 2015

More light in the evening

Sunrise and sunset will be about one hour later on Sunday, March 29, 2015 than the day before, so there will be more light in the evening.

Clocks back or forward?
To remember which way to set your watch, keep in mind “spring forward, fall back”. You set your clock forward in the spring when DST starts (= lose one hour), and back one hour when DST ends in the fall (= regain one hour).

“Spring ahead” and “Spring up”

A different way to remember which direction to set your clock for Daylight Saving Time is that in the spring, you bring out (or forward) the garden furniture (clocks are set 1 hour ahead), and in the fall you put them back (clocks are set 1 hour back).
The expressions “spring ahead” and “spring up” are also used to describe the action of setting clocks one hour ahead for the start of DST in the spring. These terms are mainly used in the USA and Canada.

American inventor and politician Benjamin Franklin wrote an essay called “An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light” to the editor of The Journal of Paris in 1784. In the essay, he suggested, although jokingly, that Parisians could economize candle usage by getting people out of bed earlier in the morning, making use of the natural morning light instead.

Spring is Here! - Read, Sing & Dance

The first day of Spring is in 2015 on March 20 (according to the astronomical definition). It is also called the spring quinox. Spring is one of the four temperate seasons, the transition period between winter and summer. Spring and "springtime" refer to the season, and broadly to ideas of rebirth, renewal and regrowth.

At the spring equinox or the first day of spring, days are close to 12 hours long with day length increasing as the season progresses.

Unstable weather may more often occur during spring, when warm air begins on occasions to invade from lower latitudes, while cold air is still pushing on occasions from the Polar regions.

17th March - Saint Patrick - Ireland

Saint Patrick's Day - By Dave Collett

St. Patrick is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland.
He was born in the fourth century and is famous for bringing Christianity into Ireland.
St. Patrick’s Day is a very well known Irish national holiday, which is celebrated not only in Ireland but all around the world. It falls on the 17th of March.

What Do People Do on St. Patrick’s Day?

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated world-wide with people dancing and singing in Irish pubs, watching the St. Patrick’s Day parade, drinking ‘green’ beer, wearing green clothes and just generally having a good time. Children in Ireland have a tradition of pinching their friends who don’t wear green on this day!

Don’t forget to wear green on this special day!

Irish Proverbs

The Irish have many proverbs but here are some favourites.
  • Better the coldness of a friend than the sweetness of an enemy.
  • Be nice to them on the way up. You might meet them all on the way down.
  • Let your anger set with the sun and not rise again with it.

Sila nos lo explica muy clarito: ¿Qué es St Patrick's Day y cómo se celebra?

Roman Life & ROY G BIV

R is for red
O is for orange
Y is for yellow
And G is for green
B is for blue
I for Indigo
And V is for violet
And that spells Roy G. Biv

Roy G. Biv is a colorful man
And he proudly stands at the rainbow's end (So you'll see him)
And his name spells out the whole color spectrum (So you'll see him)

You'll never see a unicorn
But you'll see a rainbow
And inside every rainbow
Is the spectrum of light

You'll never see Roy G. Biv
But he's inside the rainbow
'Cause inside every rainbow
Is the spectrum of light
